Grant Park is also the name of Atlanta's oldest city park. It is the fourth largest park of Atlanta. In Grant Park is Zoo Atlanta, (originally known as Grant Park Zoo). Zoo Atlanta is one of the oldest zoological institutions in the United States, and Atlanta's oldest cultural establishments. There are over 1,300 animals housed there. Occupancy includes the largest collection of gorillas and orangutans; currently giant pandas are part of the zoo. Zoo Atlanta zoological park is accredited through (AZA), Association of Zoos and Aquariums. In 2009 Zoo Atlanta added Boundless Budgies: A Parakeet Adventure a experience with more than 500 free flying parakeets. This is the largest exhibit of it's kind in the southwestern U.S. Guests get to hand feed the birds. Zoo Atlanta includes a children's zoo.
Touting itself as the largest painting in the world, the cyclorama is a panorama view of the Battle of Atlanta during the Civil War in 1864. It is located in the Atlanta Cyclorama & Civil War Museum in Grant Park. In this museum is the Texas steam locomotive a veteran of the Great Locomotive chase of 1862. Every year Grant Park has a Tour of Homes in autumn which is sponsored by the Grant Park Neighborhood Association.
