Knightdale, NC real estate is a conveniently located suburb of Raleigh, North Carolina that has enjoyed a respectable population boom in recent years, bringing with it many new businesses and restaurants.
The history of Knightdale dates back to the early 1700's, when the Lords Proprietors of the Carolina Colony hired John Lawson to explore the area from Charleston, SC north. After receiving a favorable report from Lawson, the King of England began to appropriate land in the area to willing settlers. In 1730, John Hinton settled in an area near the Neuse River, an area that would later become Knightdale. In fact, 3 of Hinton's original plantations from the time are still intact: The Oaks, Midway, and Beaver Dam.
Knightdale, NC real estate was really just a mix of plantations up until the Civil War. At that time, nearby Raleigh experienced a population boom and local leaders decided to redraw the map of Wake County and split it into townships. The area that became Knightdale was located in St. Matthew's Township, and remained as such until the end of the 19th century, when the crossroads with a post office attracted the Norfolk and Southern Railroad Company - thanks to a generous land donation from local citizen Henry Haywood Knight.
Today Knightdale, NC real estate enjoys considerable and sustained growth, thanks in part to the recent expansion of the I-540 corridor that connects Knightdale, NC real estate to North Raleigh, RDU, RTP, Apex, and Morrisville. US 64 and US 264 are also major highways in the Knightdale area.
The town also offers residents access to award-winning Wake County public schools. Five of these serve the Knightdale area and include Forestville Elementary, Hodge Road Elementary, Knightdale Elementary, Lockhart Elementary, and Knightdale High School.
In addition, Knightdale, NC real estate within commuting distance of excellent higher education including Meredith College, North Carolina State University, Shaw University, Peace College, Wake Technical Community College, and the new Campbell University School of Law, located in downtown Raleigh.
