With an increase in population of 27.5% since the year 2000, Monroe is in one of the fastest growing counties in the United States.  The median age of residents is 30.9 years old  and the median household income is $42,224.  There are just over 10,000 housing units in Monroe with a mean price of $172,512 in 2009.  The racial makeup is 43.3% white persons, 29.3% Hispanic, 25.5% African American and less than 3% of other races.
