Although Rockingham County real estate is mostly rural, the cities of Eden and Reidsville have a nice balance of small-town living and modern amenities. These small, yet bustling, cities are growing. Reidsville is developing a 411-acre technology and industrial park that is home to two international companies: AFG Wipes and Alcan Packaging. If you're looking for larger cities, Rockingham County real estate is less than 30 miles north of Greensboro and just northeast of Winston-Salem.

Rockingham County Real Estate and Recreation

The Dan, Mayo and Smith Rivers are a recreational paddler's dream. Navigate the rivers on your own or connect with one of the local guides. Boaters can choose from a leisurely paddle or challenging trip through Class II and III rapids in Rockingham County real estate.

If you prefer more open waters, Rockingham County real estate also offers several lakes for water sports enthusiats. Lake Reidsville, an over 750 acre lake, offers an opportunity for camping, fishing, boating, water skiing, hiking and picnicking. In western Rockingham County real estate, Belews Lake provides more outdoor fun. This tranquil lake spans more than 88 miles and over 3,800 acres. Rockingham County school system consists of 25 schools with an annual enrollment of just over 14,000. There are 16 elementary, 4 middle, and 5 high schools.

Colleges and Universities

Rockingham Community College offers two-year college degree, certification and diploma programs. It also provides continuing education for job training programs and specific training for certain industries.

Agriculture

Like many parts of North Carolina, it's history is steeped in farming, textile and tobacco. Over the years production in those fields has faded.

Vineyards and wineries have cropped up in several of the former farm fields in Rockingham County real estate. Autumn Creek Vineyards in Mayodan is just seven miles off US 220 on a former farm. It features nearly 10 acres of vineyards, a tasting room, two overnight, getaway cabins, and plans for a special events center and inn. Chinqua-Penn Plantation is thriving off its heritage with the production of Chinqua-Penn wines and a wine tasting room. Riverbirch Vineyards is growing native Muscadine grapes and producing wine on another former farm in the countryside of Rockingham County real estate.

Rockingham County real estate also hosts a Farmer's Market. The market is located in the former stables of Chinqua-Penn Plantation. The market is open on Wednesdays and Saturdays from April to November. Downtown Reidsville also hosts the Downtown Farmer's Market in the Settle Street parking lot from May until November.
