Rowan County was formed in 1753 from part of Anson County. The county got its name from the acting governor of North Carolina in 1753, named Matthew Rowan.

Rowan County's Location

Rowan County real estate has a total of 524 square miles of which 13 square miles are water. The Yadkin River forms the county's eastern border. Interstate 85 passes through the county from southwest to northeast making trips to Charlotte or Greensboro easily accessible.
